Albertus ‘Kwagga’ Smith is one of the most popular and recognizable rugby players in South Africa. The 30-year-old flank played an integral part in the Springbok squads that won the 2019 World Cup in Japan and the 2023 World Cup in France. With 40 Test caps and seven tries to his name, Smith has earned a reputation as a dynamic and versatile player. His influence extends beyond the 15-man game, as he made a significant impact in sevens rugby for the Blitzboks, winning the World Rugby Sevens Series twice, securing a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and claiming a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Earlier in his career, Kwagga represented the Junior Springboks at the 2013 U20 World Rugby Championship. He also played in three consecutive Super Rugby finals for the Lions between 2016 and 2018 and represented rugby’s most famous invitational team, the Barbarians, being named Man of the Match after their 2017 clash with the All Blacks. Kwagga played an essential role in the Springboks' 2021 series win against the British & Irish Lions and solidified his value as an impact player off the bench during the 2023 World Cup.
